May 1918 The first airfields in Lincolnshire were set up under the auspices of
the Royal
Flying Corps in 1915/6, when the 38 Squadron RFC, formed as part
of an initiative to counter the German Zeppelin raids, operated its 3 Flights
out of RFC Buckminster,
RFC Leadenham and Stamford (Wittering)
with HQ at Melton Mowbray.
38 Sqn did not intercepty a single Zeppelin up to May 1918. |
