It then fell under the disarmament axe in Jun 1919. The third formation of 90 Sqn, in Mar 1937, was as a bomber sqn equipped with Blenheim. After spending the early days of the war as a training unit, being absorbed by 17 OTU, 90 Sqn reformed in May 1941 as the first to receive the B-17 Flying Fortress for the high altitude bombing role. After a brief disbandment from Feb to Nov 1942 90 Sqn re-requipped to the Stirling heavy bomber, contributing to the Battles of the Ruhr, Hamburg and Peenemunde. 90 Sqn also flew the Lancaster and Lincoln before a brief disbandment in 1950, re-equipping with the Washington and then Canberra. The final aircraft type operated was the Valiant. As part of the bomber force, regular flights to the bombing range at Stavanger took place. Its final role was to operate the Valiant in an air refueling mode until this type was grounded. The Sqn finally disbanded on 16 Apr 1965.
