A 50 Sqn detachment arrived in Oct 1941 before airfield construction was complete, followed by the remained of the Sqn the following month. 50 Sqn and 61 Sqn departed for RAF Sturgate in Jun 1945. Thereafter 619 and 463 Sqn RAAF, supported by 383 MU were assigned to the Tiger Force for the Far East. After 619 and 463 Sqn departed the airfield was used as a satellite of 1660 HCU at Swinderby.

After the war 58 MU was based here and salvaged crashed aircraft for several years.

Details of the Museum to 50 and 61 Sqns and the separate RAF Skellingthorpe Memorial are on the memorial page.

J A Campbell, a mid-upper gunner who served in in 61 Sqn RAF at Skellingthorpe has contributed his memories to the site.

Nancy Gilbourne served at RAF Skellingthorpe in 1942 and a selection of her photographs are available online.
